CNN —Aaron Boone has been tossed from an MLB game 35 times since becoming New York Yankees manager in 2018, but his most recent ejection on Monday was certainly unique. Moments later, Boone was tossed when Wendelstedt heard a shout directed towards him – despite the offending words appearing to come from a fan in the stands and not the Yankees manager himself. You got anything else to say, you’re gone, OK?”The cameras then cut to a frustrated – but crucially silent – Boone who appeared to stand down. Per MLB, Wendelstedt conceded postgame that Boone “probably, you know, is not the one who made the comment,” but doubled down on his reasons for the ejection. Aaron Boone runs the Yankees.

San Francisco CNN —San Francisco is suing its neighbor across the Bay over a plan to change the name of Oakland’s airport. “People do not know that Oakland is by the San Francisco Bay. San Francisco filed suit in federal court Thursday, requesting the court prohibit Oakland from using the name, alleging that Oakland plans to “intentionally and knowingly capitalize off of confusion.”The City of San Francisco owns a trademark on “San Francisco International Airport,” commonly referred to by its three-letter code, SFO. It does not need the same San Francisco as part of its airport to stand out,” she penned in a letter to the Port of Oakland. We will vigorously defend our right to claim our spot on the San Francisco Bay.

Before Thursday night, if you were not familiar with Oakland University, you were not alone. Tournament, were asking if “that Oakland was in California” or the Michigan suburb of Rochester. “If people didn’t know who the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies were before last night, they surely know now,” Mr. Hendley said. For all but perhaps close followers of the university, a brief introduction may be in order: It was created in 1957 through a donation to establish a satellite location for Michigan State University. At first, the campus was known as Michigan State University-Oakland, but in 1970, Oakland became an independent university.

The aim: to crack down on crime, including vehicle theft, retail theft and violent crime. The Oakland NAACP branch demanded elected leaders take action to ensure public safety, especially in predominately Black neighborhoods. Denny’s is shuttering its only location in Oakland after more than 54 years, citing public safety concerns. Motor vehicle theft increased by 29% and, since 2019, motor vehicle theft has shot upward by 105%, the study found. This variation “suggests local factors are becoming more significant.”There’s no easy answer to explaining why crime has increased in Oakland.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland considered a resolution to call for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war on Monday, potentially joining nearly a dozen other U.S. cities from Michigan to Georgia that have supported the same. The resolution before the Oakland City Council also calls for the unrestricted entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and a restoration of basic services, as well as “respect for international law” and the release of all hostages. A temporary cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, which Qatar helped broker, is currently in place. “It raises an interesting question on where they are getting this mandate to speak for the people in their city when nobody elected a city council person because of their stance on Middle East peace,” he said. Now, city councils are just the latest arena where intense debates over the war and the United States' support for Israel are playing out.

A product of the academic age in jazz, Akinmusire’s creative life has been intertwined with the Hancock institute nearly from the start. “I don’t want any part of this.” So he moved to Los Angeles, where the jazz scene is smaller and more spread out, and did some hibernating. She told him she’d made everyone in the dressing room stop talking during his set; she’d loved his playing. They started spending afternoons together, taking rides in his Honda Civic to pick up Italian food or playing music at her place. Akinmusire began to see a future for himself that might exist both in and outside of jazz.

Germán completed the perfect game by inducing a groundout from Esteury Ruiz, the speedy Oakland outfielder. It was the second Yankee no-hitter in the past three seasons, following a 2021 performance by Corey Kluber against the Texas Rangers. The masterpiece of a game was the highest point, by far, in an uneven season for Germán. He has put together strong outings, like when he allowed only one run over 8 ⅓ innings against Cleveland last month. But his past two starts were a far cry from that showing, yielding 15 earned runs over 5 ⅓ innings against Boston and Seattle.

“The Seattle experience really solidified that thought for us, that this was something we all needed,” said Ms. Meredith, 43, an author and freelance writer. The younger Mr. Meredith spent his formative years in Jackson, Miss., and later did graduate work at the University of San Diego. “We loved the grittiness, the sunshine, and the diversity,” Ms. Meredith said. “Initially I think we were dumbstruck — awe-struck,” Ms. Meredith said.
